14th Thai Short Film & Video Festival August 26 to September 5

The 14th Thai Short Film & Video Festival, organized by the Thai Film Foundation with support from Office of Contemporary Art and Culture and Ministry of Culture, is set for August 26 to September 5.

Apart from the local and international competition, selected from more than 700 entries, the festival is full of the special programs that have become popular in recent years.

Back this year will be selections from the Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival, the biggest short film festival in this world, the Queer Program and the S-Express collections of shorts from Southeast Asia, China and Taiwan.

Programs just for this year include a selection of short documentaries to commemorate 110th birth anniversary of statesman Pridi Banomyong and an animation showcase in tribute to Sudsakorn animator Payut Ngaokrachan (the "Walt Disney of Thailand"), who died this past May 27.

In observance of Thailand's political turmoil, the festival will exhibit shorts from around the world focusing on the life and relationship after conflict.

There will also be the premiere of Baby Arabia, a musical documentary on a Thai-Malay band from the makers of The Convert, Panu Aree, Kaweenipon Ketprasit and Kong Rithdee

The festival venue will again be the Bangkok Art and Culture Center at the Pathumwan junction, opposite of MBK. Admission is free of charge. And English subtitle is available only for some films.

More special programs and tributes are in the works, and the selection of competition finalists will be released about mid-August.
