The Unseeable, Graceland at San Francisco Asian-American Film Festival

The schedule for the San Francisco Asian American Film Festival has gone live, and it has a great line-up. The festival runs from March 13 to 23, with separate programs in Berkeley from March 14 to 22 and San Jose from March 21 to 23.

Two Thai films are featured in the festival: Wisit Sasanatieng's old-timey Siamese ghost story The Unseeable, and Anocha Suwichakornpong's short film, Graceland.

The festival will pay tribute to the late Taiwanese director Edward Yang, who died last year at age 59. Three of Yang's films will be shown: Brighter Summer Day (1991), The Terrorizer (1986), and Yi Yi: A One and A Two (2000).

The international showcase offers several films from Southeast Asia: Royston Tan's musical, 881 ("If ABBAcould sing in Hokkien ..."), a Brillante Mendoza double feature of Foster Child and Slingshot and Riri Riza's stoner road trip romance, Three Days to Forever.

What else? Park Chan-wook's I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK starring Rain, the acclaimed hit Bollywood musical Om Shanti Om, Hou Hsiao-hsien's Flight of the Red Balloon, Alexi Tan's 1930s Shanghai gangster tale Blood Brothers, the Afghanistan-set Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame, set in the town where the Taliban’s destruction of cultural treasures sickened the world, and the first Death Note film adaptation from 2006.

  1. I am trying to find a copy of Edward Yang's The Terrorizer with English subtitles. VHS is fine. DVD is preferred. Can you help me?
